Abstract

Artificial intelligence (A.I.) is arguably the most transformative technological advancement of the 21st century. The disruptive technology promises a dangerous crossroads of economic opportunity and productivity, and economists are unable to reach a consensus regarding the long-term implications of such innovation. This paper discusses the current state of A.I. deployment, comparative regional differences in economic development, and sector-specific impacts of A.I. adoption. We identify and address three policy concerns: implementation lag, monopolistic structures, and labor market effects. Throughout, a keen emphasis is placed upon equitable and progressive growth for stakeholders at all levels—a core tenant of any high-quality economy.
